Carlisle to Kendal - 51.5 miles
Having reached Kendal we've reached the halfway point both in terms of cycling days and miles covered. Everyone agrees that today has been the most demanding physically but it was rewarded with some beautiful views of the Lake District in all of its glory. Our planned coffee stop was at Greystoke and we weren't too sure if there would be a coffee shop there. We came across the Cyclists Barn. As its name suggests its for cyclists, primarily aimed at those doing the coast-to-coast cycle ride. The owner was a little surprised that we us oldies were doing the JOGLE. We spoke to s couple who were coast-to-coasters and they gave us a donation, which was very kind of them.
At Patterdale we met up with Ian our support driver for the second section of the route down to Newent. Ian had found us a great place to have our lunch. By now everyone was getting a little apprehensive about the challenge ahead - cycling up Kirkstone Pass. Well we all made it and celebrated the fact at the top. (see photos). From there we had another18 miles to get to our hostel in Kendal. Tomorrow we leave Cumbria and head for Preston.
