After the exertions of yesterday today has been a more relaxing ride. The route was relatively flat but took us through some big towns/cities such as Lancaster and Preston.This always makes cycling less enjoyable due to the volume of traffic.The day got off to a good start with our new support driver Ian finding a tea shop just south of Burton-in-Kendal. We arrived at opening time just as Val to owner was taking some freshly baked scones out of the oven. Of course we all felt duty bound to sample them (see photo below). Our lunch stop was Garstang which most people associate with the motorway service station. The town is very interesting. During the afternoon we saw a policeman on a bicycle wearing the traditional pointed helmet. We also suffered our first mechanical failure. Fred broke Richards horn but this was soon fixed with our extensive toolset (superglue). Tonight we are staying in our first hotel which has given us the opportunity to soak in a bath. Tomorrow we head south to Northwich.

- Al our treasurer is happy today as he only had to pay £43 for dinner last night in Wetherspoons. For that he got a main course, pint of beer, and a dessert for 6 people.
