We are now at the end of Day 12 which means that we are two thirds of the way through the ride. An apt description of today would be 'Cycling Sunday'. We encountered various road-based cycling events during the morning and we can honestly say that up to 11:30 we saw more bicycles than cars. On several occasions these event marshals said we were going the wrong way until we told them we weren't taking part in the event. Our first stop was a coffee stop at a marina on the Shropshire Union canal (see photo). Once again we were the first customers. No freshly baked scones today, instead we had some very nice Bakewell Sponge and Flapjacks. As we couldn't find anywhere for afternoon tea we stopped in a lay-by and Ian did a brew-up (see photo). Most of the ride was flat until 10 miles from the end when we effectively cycled over The Wrekin. The downhill section turned out to unsuitable for motorised vehicles and also road going bicycles. It was a hair-raising ride for those of us that had slick tyres for road use (see photo). Just as we approached Ironbridge it started to rain. We did manage to get a photo though. A tough day's cycling not helped by the strong SE wind. We will be eating in the YHA hostel tonight. As there is little to no network signal here in
