A first for all of us this morning was to wake up to sunshine in Oban, better still a strong northerly wind. As expected though, by the time we had eaten a hearty breakfast and got on our bikes it was raining!
Just a few miles in to the ride however the rain stopped and we had a great day's cycling. The traffic was much lighter now we have left the busy road in the Fort William area and we were able to really appreciate the magnificent scenery. Although the road was "undulating", the strong wind behind us made it feel like we were on battery powered bikes.We breezed into Lochgilphead for lunch and had perhaps our poorest baked potato so far. Alan chose a Tikka filling which was very pink and had almost no flavour! The food so far has been great so we hope this isn't a bad omen.
We breezed on to Tarbet which turned out to be a really pretty fishing town, made very atmospheric in the afternoon sun. It was then up a hill, no surprises there, to our B & B on the road to the following day's ferry.
Expectations were high as this was our most expensive overnight stay. We were not disappointed as it was a great place. Richard and Nick had first choice of rooms and chose to share the double bed. They both seemed to sleep well, we didn't like to ask too many questions! Our evening meal was in Tarbert, a rather overbudget affair but our treasurer Al approved the spend and a good time was had by all. Three of the team however drew the short straw and travelled there in the back on the van there and back - an interesting journey in the windowless van!
