Firstly, apologies for the news blackout. All of us with PCs and mobile phones have been finding it very difficult to get a strong enough network signal here in Scotland. This blog post is being sent from Fort William our destination after the 3rd day's cycling.
We've had 3 days of cycling in really good weather conditions which will surprise most people south of the border who I gather have been suffering heavy rain. There is even the hint of suntan on some of the riders. We've covered 193 miles so far and we've experienced some fantastic scenery. Days 2 and 3 were long rides, each being about 67 miles in length. Tomorrow will be about 50 miles.
So far we have avoided the midges which according to the locals are bad this year. We've also avoided many of the woes of cyclists, namely punctures. I think it is fair to say that we have more than replaced the calories we have expended cycling (approx. 2,000 calories a day) with three meals a day.
The only downside has been the traffic on the main roads. At times we feel they should have given us a wider berth.
